Ex-Chief Tom “Pops” LoConte
It is with sorrow
that the Sound Beach Fire Department announces the passing of
Ex-Chief Thomas LoConte. Chief LoConte was a 45-year member and
Chief of Department in 1973 and 1974. He served as Captain of
Engine Company Two in 1969 and 1970; at the time of his death he was
the Company’s senior ranking member. Chief LoConte also served as
President of the Department, a Commissioner of the Fire District and
received the department’s highest honor, Firefighter of the Year in
1965 and again in 2002. Chief LoConte passed at the age of 73 and
was active until the month before his passing. He will always be in
our hearts.
